This is DuChance et al of the now mostly quondam www.artforum.com/talkback heydays. Yet perhaps it was just T.J. Demos all along. Probably both, and very possibly more, as Artforum played loose with the administration of their online forum. Anyway, what really scared them was real "institutional critique" that they couldn't control except by "disproportionate use of force." Typical
"The Barnes Foundation, Long Silent, Speaks"
I would make the new Barnes Foundation exactly twice as large as the original, and then distribute the artwork on each wall proportionally to the new dimensions. That, or shrink each visitor to exactly half their size before they enter the galleries.
If there's one thing I can't stand it's crowds in museums.
Oh, and the empty original Barnes Foundation would make a great new contemporary art museum.

Celestine dream
Wasn't that book really about a lot of people getting high on pot and then thinking grand thoughts?
One of my favorite sentences of all time comes from the entry under 'Celestine the Fifth, pope' in The Penguin Dictionary of Saints: "The results were disastrous, for Celestine was unfitted for the papal office in every respect except his holiness."

Does anyone else remember that the first title of Wig Nut and Wig Not is All those "separated at birth" gags are destined to become a poignant part of turn-of-the-millennium art history, or at least that's what fictitious fashion voyeur Dick Hertz said?

1954. Monday, Philadelphia
Duchamp assists Henri Marceau and George Barbour with the installation of the Large Glass [5.2.1923] in its permanent home at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Situated in the midst of the very fine Arensberg Collection [27.12.195], the Glass is positioned in one of the large rooms exactly as Duchamp has suggested [7.4.1954].
Two aluminium pipes, six inches in diameter and about eight metres long, the height of the ceiling, provide the main support. Marceau has suggested that the old wooden supports can be done away with and that, with careful measurement, the screws and keyholes in the pipes could be matched up. It
only requires a slight deflection of the pipes to slip the Glass into place.
When the very delicate operation has been completed, a photographer captures Henri Marceau and Duchamp, pipe in hand, looking at the Large Glass, with Barbour viewing it from the height of the museum's mobile elevator. With the installation nearing completion, the galleries of the Arensberg Collection are to be opened to the public in the autumn.
